Most great companies have a mission statement. Nike’s mission is ‘To bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world. ‘If you have a body, you are an athlete’. What a statement! It has guided everything they do.

What is your mission statement? You need one! Try writing one today! Use it to clarify God’s destiny for your life. Remember, it’s not a list of your goals? Goals change; destiny doesn’t. Sensible people keep their eyes glued on their mission, but a fool’s eyes wander in many directions. To breakthrough you’ve got to think about your journey so far and where it might be leading. You’ve got to know where you are headed; otherwise, how would you be able to map out your way there.

Your mission statement should spell out what you intend to do with your time, possessions, opportunities, responsibilities, and also what you’re not going to do. Not every good thing is right for you, and if you don’t know where you’re going, how would you know when you get there. You must define what success would look like in terms of what you believe to be important, not what the world thinks.

On 10th October 1980 The then UK Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, responding to expectations of an about-turn on counter-inflationary policies made a defiant speech stressing her determination to stick to tough economic policies despite doubts being expressed. Mrs Thatcher declared: ‘to those waiting with bated breath for that favourite media catchphrase, the U-turn, I have only one thing to say: You turn if you want to.
