ESTABLISHING A LIFE OBJECTIV

Habakkuk 2:1-3

  1. Introduction
    • Last month was our month of success, but may I welcome you once again  to the month of super successful living
    • For short super living
    • So last month we began to look at what it takes to be successful in life
    • Specifically, two weeks ago, we look at steps involved in setting goals
    • Today we follow that up with looking at how to establish a life objective
    • In comparison to a goal
    • An objective is specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound
    • It is a condition that must be attained in order to accomplish a particular goal.
    • Objectives define the actions that must be taken within a specific period to reach a goal.
    • Objectives are more specific and provide more detail.
    • A goal is where you want to be objectives are the steps taken to reach the goal.
    • If there was one gift I could give to you as your pastor this Christmas
    • It would be that you could see clearly what God wants to do in your life.
  1. Positioning
    • Hab 2:1-3I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guardpost. There I will wait to see what the LORD says and how he will answer my complaint. 2 Then the LORD said to me, “Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others. 3 This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.
    • As we pick up the story in chapter 2. Habakkuk is a man waiting for an answer from God.
    • Verse 1 says I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guardpost. There I will wait to see what the LORD says and how he will answer my complaint.
    • One thing is especially important to achieve super living and that is spiritual positioning.
    • Habakkuk puts himself in a position to hear from God.
    • He stands upon his watch and upon the tower while he waits to see what God will say.
    • He separated himself from what was going on around him so he could hear from God.
    • To hear from God concerning your future, concerning 2021
    • We must get into the presence of God.
    • We must separate ourselves from the distractions and the issues that surround us and concentrate on God
    • Remember, it is o.k. to question God, but it is your responsibility to make sure you are in the proper position to hear His response.
    • Sometimes we question God and say well He is not answering me
    • The fact is that He answered, you just were not in position to hear what he is saying.
    • So, Habakkuk gets into position to hear what God will say
    • And God gives him 2 instructions
    • Once in position he receives these 2 instructions: write and wait.
  1. Embrace God
    • Habakkuk’s name means to “embrace”.
    • I feel this is because he was wrestling with a difficult issue
    • He questioned God, yet embraces God.
    • He understands that God is in control.
    • And that is exactly what we must do.
    • We can question God, but we must embrace Him.
    • God instructs Habakkuk to write and wait
    • So if I’m to enjoy super living
    • I must set my goals and objectives now
  1. Set your goals and objectives now
    • Beloved, this is the time to set your goal and objectives for next year
    • On Tuesday, Dec 1stin open heavens devotional, Daddy GO wrote about committing our plans to God
    • Daddy was advising that it’s not wise to start planning for something when you are already in it.
    • Some people plan their year at the beginning of D year; no wonder they hardly achieve anything meaningful in that year.
    • You cannot begin to plan for a battle when you are already in D midst of it.
    • Have U ever seen someone planning their wedding on the wedding day?
    • Just as it makes no sense to study for an examination in the exam hall when question papers are already being distributed?
    • In the same way it doesn’t make any sense to wait until the new year before you begin to plan for it?
    • What does having a life objective do for me
  1. It reduces frustration
    • Having an objective reduces frustration
    • Life is complex!  It’s full of choices.
    • But not all choices will help you achieve your goal
    • There are three kinds of people in the world
    • Those who make things happen
    • Those who watch things happen
    • Those who have no idea at all what’s happening.
    • The last two are very frustrating lifestyles.
    • Knowing what will help you achieve your goals reduces frustration
  1. It increases motivation
    • What motivates you?
    • What causes you to get up in the morning, get dressed and get going?
    • There’s two approaches to the morning:
    • “Good morning, Lord!” or
    • “Good Lord, it’s morning!”
    • When you have a clearly defined plan for the day
    • There’s a reason to get out of bed.
    • Proverbs 29:18“Where there is no vision the people perish.”
    • Phl 3:14I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
    • Phl 3:14I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
    • I’ve got something to get up for in the morning.
    • A life objective gives meaning to life.
    • It inspires, creates, energizes.
    • Even when you are making sacrifices, you know why you are making it
  1. It allows concentration
    • Success is the result of focusing on one thing and doing it well.
    • Ask any professional athlete, and they’ll tell you success is the result of focusing on one thing and not dabbling around.
    • That was Paul’s secret of success.
    • Phl 3:13No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing:
    • Philippians 3:13“I am bringing all my energies to bear on this one thing:  forgetting what is behind and looking forward to what lies ahead.”
    • Notice he says, “this one thing.”
    • He didn’t have twenty things he dabbled in
    • He had one thing that he focused on.
    • We all have the same amount of time.
    • Why are some people more successful?
    • Because they use their time better.
  1. A life objective attracts cooperation
    • The amazing thing, when you decide exactly what you want to do
    • You’re going to find many people who want to go along with you.
    • They’re waiting to help you.
    • Phl 1:5 for you have been my partners in spreading the Good News about Christ from the time you first heard it until now.
    • Philippians 1:15. “You have helped me in the work of the gospel from the first day until now.”
    • The Philippians bought into his vision because he shared his vision with them
    • When you know what you want it attracts other people.
    • Big thinking attracts big thinkers.
    • God has resources to help you that you have not even considered.
    • Open your eyes and see the faces of the people around you.
    • Open your ears to hear what they’re saying.
    • Today, tomorrow, next week, you’ll meet someone, someone who is the right person you need.
    • And that right person will come along to fill the right place at just the right time
    • You will marvel knowing that God arranged it so beautifully.
  1. It guides action
    • 1Co 10:23You say, “I am allowed to do anything”–but not everything is good for you. You say, “I am allowed to do anything”–but not everything is beneficial.
    • 1Co 10:23All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify.
    • You cant do everything that everyone else is doing
  1. Conclusion
    • Hab 2:2Then the LORD answered me and said: “Write the vision And make [it] plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.
    • Write your plans down for 2021 ahead of the new year
    • Don’t just make the plans in your head, write it down
    • Then you must commit those plans to the hands of God.
    • Before you were formed in your mother’s womb, God had a plan & agenda for your life.
    • It does not matter how meticulous your plan is
    • If it is not in line with His agenda for you, you may end up struggling to get your footing in D new year.
    • Let Him know that all you care about is that His will is done & nothing else.
    • Tell Him that you may have planned your way, but you need Him to direct your steps.
    • God is not responsible for whatever is not committed to His hands
    • If you call on Him to direct your footsteps, He will take you to greater heights & help you far beyond your imaginations.
    • Let us pray
