Everyman would love to be a king or at least live like one. But not everyman could pay the price of being a king. Being a king isn’t about the type or size of your car, your house, bank balance etc. Kingship is characterized by strong convictions, courageous moral choices, a servant spirit, righteous energy and righteous leadership.

Kingship is about the love of right over comfort and circumstances. It is that thing that makes a man refuse to cheat on a business deal, it’s what makes a man keep his promise even when keeping the promise is extremely difficult. It’s what makes a man make good on his debt, risks his own life to save another person, makes him say no when propositioned by a female companion on a business trip. It’s what makes a man refuse to take advantage of someone else, stand up to a good friend whose life is out of control, and risks the friendship in order to call the friend back to what is noble, and what is just.

Being a king doesn’t come easily, It’s only forged in the crucible of life and cultivated over time, nurtured through parents, mentors, heroes, stories, faith and perseverance. Every waking day of your life you either developing or snuffing out the king in you, because it comes with those decisions and choices you make – sometimes, like climbing a mountain, the small hills at the beginning of your life – and sometimes the issues get much bigger, but each time you scale the summit, the King in you  grows stronger.  Are you KING?

Kings reflects. In the Bible the prophet Nathan went to King David to confront him about his secret adultery. Knowing that when he confronts the king, he’s laying it all on the line, and the king with just a word could either banish him from the kingdom forever, or have him put to death. Yet, he looks into the face of a king and says, “You are the man! And you’re wrong.” King David, on hearing the words of a righteous man, instead of saying ‘I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Bathsheba.’ in the face of being confronted with the wrong, he called on the king within him and said “I’ve sinned. You’re right; I’ve done wrong.”
